[Lifestyle] JB's graduation & my FIRST ever YouTube video!

Weeeee! So the boy has officially graduated from Universiti Malaya 2 weeks ago. Some pictures to clear the back log in my camera. Oh and by the way, all pictures shot by my new Sony a5100! Love this camera, especially the tilted screen. So useful man.

That day was soooo hot I tell you. I wouldn't say it was very sunny and bright, it was just super hazy and sweaty and... hot. The haze was terrible that day.

So, so glad that at the time I'm writing this, the haze has cleared *touch wood*. After months of haze, I actually forgot how green trees and how blue the sky can be. Like a few days ago during a clear day, I was actually surprised at how vibrant the colors of my neighborhood looked.

By the way, I'm the girl on the left. LOL. I don't have a solo OOTD, but uhm... I'll just list my OOTD deets here lah:

Crop tee: Zalora
Cardigan: Kampar, can't remember where
High-waisted jeans: H&M

By the way, I've got a special discount code for my readers to shop at Zalora! Key in ZBAP1R9 to get 15% off your purchases heh :)

So, today I took a day off work to settle some bank stuff and to re-new my passport because.... I'm going on holiday next week!!! Hehehehe. Too excited. I think this will be the first real holiday I'm going to ever since I started working 1 year ago (time flies deiii).

I'll be posting pictures of my holiday on my instagram and Facebook here and here. Be sure to creep on me there k?

By the way, my life is going to change at the end of this November (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating but you be the judge when the time comes, haha). Its gonna be a scary decision but its for me lah.

I've been wanting it since forever. So its now or never baby! I'm secretly very excited but also nervous.

So in conclusion, JB's face throughout this whole camera roll is literally = =. I rest my case.

By the way guysssss, remember that I've been mentioning that I'll be starting something new? Like that was ages ago, but never mind. 80% of my preparation is done. Can't wait any longer because YOLO. Time to unveil.

Its my very own YouTube channel!

Okok, so this is a whole new level of putting yourself out there. Like I'm actually a little bit afraid to let people know about this. Haha.

So this is my first EVER video I uploaded. Natural graduation makeup to coincide with this Graduation post. I'm totally new to all this and I don't expect my first video to be anything fancy. I didn't talk through my video because the audio quality of my camera's inbuilt mic isn't that good. I'm thinking of getting a dedicated mic if I were to do that. But that later since I've been spending quite a bit of money recently.

Ok so my channel's name is Missy Miyen to keep it consistent with errthang.

My channel is pretty bare except for this one video. I don't even have a proper cover for my channel. LOL. Still WIP.

So anyway, if you're reading this, just give my video a thumbs up and subscribe lah. Thank youuuu!

And I'm out!

[Beauty] Hermo #MYCYBERSALE2015 Haul

I know I've been MIA for god knows how long. But I'm back :D

I need to stop saying that because every time I say that, I disappear for another 10 years.

Fun fact: This month marks my 1 year as a working professional! *pops confetti*

Confetti aside, I'm not going to lie but working full time (and OT-ing on a REGULAR basis) has eaten up a significant amount of my time and energy. So by the time I get home, all I want to do is sleep.

Dear blog,

I'm really sorry for neglecting you for so long even though I have unlimited WiFi.

Yours truly,
Your master

P.S. if you read my previous post (which was like 3 months ago), you'd know I now have unlimited WiFi which I didn't have in my previous room.

To be honest, I really want to start spending time doing things I really like again, like blogging ;). I won't promise anything concrete to my readers, but I'm trying to get back in the game and achieving more work-life balance for myself and also for my readers lol.

Also, in my previous post, you'd know I recently bought a car. So she (yes, it's a she-car) arrived before Raya and I'm seriously sooooo grateful for her! The mobility and freedom my baby car gives me more than compensates its cost. I'm not even joking.

Little update aside, I decided to give myself a little treat (because I'm such a hard little worker) and recently ran a super sale in conjunction with #MYCYBERSALE2015 and their prices were off the roof! Not kidding. So I just had to buy something.

Feast your eyes on my haul!

SIGMA BRUSHES!!! SO FLUFFY I'M GONNA DIE! *hyperventilates* It's their color pop collection that comes in a super cute polka dot tin. Convenient to take around if you want to.

I never really imagined that I'll be owning Sigma brushes so soon. Because like, I don't even put on makeup. But its just nice to have and it was cheap.

Actualllyyyyy... it's for something. Not gonna tell. Teehee.

Also, I got a FREE BRUSH from SIGMA because I purchased the above set. This is their E70 - medium angled shading travel brush.

ETUDE HOUSE Play 101 pencils!!! I'm excited and the exclamation marks cannot be contained.

I blame Pony (one of my favorite beauty gurus I stalk on YouTube) for purchasing these pencils. But she makes the most amazing makeup looks with these pencils and it looked so simple to re-create and I was just sold.

So I purchased 3 colors, No. 4, No. 28 and No. 48.

No. 4 and No. 28 are shimmery shades, ideal for putting in the inner corner of my eye, or the aegyo sal line for that tear drop effect. No. 48 is a nice dark brown color with very slight glitters for lining with a natural effect.

Lastly is this sheet mask I purchased because I had to hit a certain value to my purchase to utilise a discount voucher and I was off by a few ringgit so I just grabbed this mask for RM4.

Haven't used this mask yet, but judging from the cover of the mask, I'll be using it after my gym sesh. Haha.

So that's all for my online haul this time round. Pretty satisfying.

I've bought a few times from already and I'm quite happy with their services so far. You can read my previous experiences with them here and here.

The first time I heard of them, they weren't such a popular website yet. But now, is one of the biggest beauty online shop in Malaysia! That goes to show if you do things properly, slowly but surely good things start to build up :)

Ok. Today is Sunday, so I'm gonna go out and do a little shopping before Monday strikes. Oh god...

Hope you enjoyed this post :)

Toodles xoxo

4 months of updates

So, lots have happened since my last post way back in March (that's about 4 months ago!) and I am so happy I'm feeling this burst of motivation to blog today.

Basically, the past few months have been lots and lots of action and work.

1. New room

I've finally moved to a new room about 2 weeks back! I am SO happy with this new place - unlimited WiFi, air-cond and a good washing machine. WiFi - the reason why this post is here today (praise the sweet lord!)

And the room closer to the shuttle pick-up location too. My last rented room (which I stayed for 9 months) really made me appreciate all the little luxuries in life now. #grateful

2. Chess

So I participated in 2 measly chess tournaments so far this year. IDG and the D'pulze team tournery. IDG was okay only, while I performed horrifyingly in the D'Pulze chess team tournament - a wake up call for me. I have lost my prowess :( But I'm glad I have a bunch of chess-loving colleagues because it's spurring me to get back in the game.

3. New car (on the waiting list)

Never in my wildest dream would I thought I'd get a brand new car as my first car but I did! I've been diligently building up my savings and I'm soooo happy with this purchase! So it's not yet here but I can't wait till its arrives! (Hint: SOON) I'll let you guys know more once its here. Teehee.

Ok, my goals for the next few months.

1. Eating healthy

Now that my new place has a common kitchen area with gas and all, I'm able to start cooking my own meals at home - hopefully that translates to healthier eating and more savings! I've started to gradually build up ingredients in the kitchen, and also buying cooking ware and utensils :)

2. Exercising every week

So there's this new workout concept called KFit that I'm excited to try once my car arrives. Also, there's a lovely park nearby my house. I've already went there twice for short jogs. Hopefully, I can discipline myself for at least a session a week.

So that's all for today lah. Gonna go out for some window shopping now :)

Till next time xoxo.

Interview with ACCA Malaysia + extra tips for self studying

Haven't blogged in a while now. I've been working for almost 6 months now. Work has been hectic and I'm trying to improve everyday although I admit I slack just as much :(

I've taken up responsibilities voluntarily (no pay that is) because I am on a race to build up my skills and knowlegde and just absorb everything thrown at me like a sponge. Current read: Rich dad, Poor dad.

So some of you may know that ACCA Malaysia interviewed me about 2 months back on how I self-studied my ACCA exams without any tuition help, which got in the newspaper. But ya'know, who reads the newspapers nowadays.

Below is the article:

What would you advise if someone say ACCA is impossible to pass?
Some people don’t have the confidence to pass their ACCA exams because of the rumours they heard. They think ACCA is too difficult to pass and they worry about the risk of not being able to get the certificate. But the ACCA exams are not impossible at all.

The percentage of Malaysians passing the ACCA exams is higher than other countries. People should not be too harsh on themselves. Just take it easy and remember that the ACCA Qualification is a world class certificate that will improve your credibility.

Why self-study?
I chose to self-study my ACCA Qualification in order to save money and also because I wanted to have the time to do the activities I love. It was my parents who encouraged me to self-study. I believed in myself, and so did they. Of course, studying without tuition help means that I also have to be disciplined in my studies.

I decided not to go down the degree route because, with a degree, I might need four years in the university and at least another two years to get my ACCA done. I took up ACCA immediately after STPM and decided to self-study so I can focus on all 14 papers, and get professionally qualified within a shorter time.

It wasn’t all rainbows for you, though, was it?
Of course not. I failed one paper, which I subsequently passed in the next sitting. It was the P4 (Advanced Financial Management) paper. The most trying time was after finding out I failed that paper. Being my first fail, the effect was more on my psychology.

But I coped by focusing on what went wrong, reviewed the answers and dedicated more time and effort to studying that paper again. Of course, having a positive mindset, the support of my family and telling myself that I only had 2 more papers left until completion (at that time), helped too.

What kept you motivated?
I always believe that if you truly want something and keep looking for ways to achieve it, there will come a day when you will find the treasure you’ve been looking for.

What study/revision techniques did you use?
I love using colours. I colour-code my notes a lot using different coloured highlighters and pens for that purpose. For papers that deal a lot with models and theory, I do mind-mapping.

Because I study alone, I never had a study group. But I find that I study best alone at my own pace, without distractions. A week or two before the exam, I make sure I set aside at least 4 hours a day to revise. I also write down salient points on placards; I find that helps a lot too, not least for the psychologically comfort it offers.

How did you get your resources to study?
Usually, I’d download the information and past year questions from the internet. Everything can be found online now. I do buy some accounting books too. The challenge for me was to be self-disciplined in order to catch up. Also, unlike those who attend tuition classes, I had to make sure the information I get is accurate and helps me to score well in the exam.

I make it a point to read the advices of those who did self-study like me in ACCA. It is definitely a motivation for me to keep going. Their success stories gave me the confidence on what I was doing so I’d know I was on the right track.

You represented Malaysia in the Chess Olympiad in 2010 and 2012; how did it feel to be picked for the team, and what was the experience like?
It was an honour to represent Malaysia in the Chess Olympiad in both years.  I enjoyed meeting legendary chess players, players from other countries and touring said countries. I do hope I have the chance to represent my country again.

[Side note: Mi Yen was a national champion for the National Schools Sports Council (MSSM) chess tournament for Girls U-15 and U-18 in 2006 and 2008 respectively. In 2010, she also came in first place in the National Close Championship, and placed fourth in the Malaysia Masters (Women) 2013 chess championship.]

How’s working life treating you?
It’s good being able to work. I can now financially support myself. I now spend my weekends traveling, and trying out the food I love. Things are getting better these days.

I’m taking my job day by day, learning as much as I can and seeing how high I can go up the corporate ladder. Being ACCA qualified has given me the opportunity to learn so much about business and the finance industry, which is much more than the numbers. I am learning about taxation, organisational restructuring and management, business plans, just to name a few. It’s definitely not boring!

Advise for your peers.
Don’t be afraid, believe in yourself. Everything is possible so just go for it!

So a few days ago, they posted it on their official facebook page and people started asking how I did it.

In all honesty, I don't really know how to answer them because I've said what I've said in the article and I don't know what else to add.

Lemme think what else to add...

I mean, I think, or would like to think, I am creative.

So I try to make studying as "artsy" as possible. I use all sorts of nonsensical ways to study; acronyms I devise myself, using as many colors as possible and  drawing shapes only I can relate to.

I don't have a specific timetable I stick to (believe me, I tried, but no.) but I make sure that I have enough time to cramp in whatever I have to study.

I am also quite lazy sometimes, so I try to devise shortcuts and learn as "smartly" as possible. Erm... don't know whether I should put that in but sometimes the weather too hot, too cold, no money, not enough highlighters, no more maggi mee in the cupboard, you can't help being lazy.

As people say, study smart.

But I have this to say: If you've decided to go for it, don't have any doubts, don't be lazy (yah, don't be like me) and be responsible. Go full a*s or no a*s at all. Then ANYONE can do it with far superior results than me.

Look as me giving advice and what not... Who would have thought.

Anyway, I'm truly blessed to be given this chance and all this happened by pure luck. Had I not gone to that particular job fair that day, had I not randomly chatted with that particular ACCA lady, none of this would have happened. So thank you!
