Review: OST Original Pure Vitamin C Serum

Hello there!

This year, I've started incorporating serums into my skincare routine and I actually find serums really effective - especially since I'm already in my 20s (ahem). For me, serums are that extra powerful dose of goodness that provides a concentration of vitamins targeted at specific skin conditions.

Applying my serum is the step I look forward the most in my skincare routine because I just find they give the most noticeable results.

My previous (and first) serum was the Nutox Oxyfusion Serum Concentrate - a hydrating and firming serum - which I really really enjoyed using. Highly recommended. The serum helped improve my skin texture and skin tone.

So just as I was finishing that serum up, Natta Cosme approached me with a vitamin C type of serum - the OST Original Pure Vitamin C20 serum.

This serum is a very popular vitamin C serum from Korea. The brand is from a company in Korea called Wishtrend.

The O.S.T. serum is one of the more popular serums on the Wishtrend site garnering a lot of good feedback. It also claims to be a best-selling item in Singapore and Japan's e-commerce.

Wishtrend also have a YouTube channel called Wishtrend TV where they talk about Korean beauty trends and skincare. I've been subscribed to their channel for quite some time. So when Nattacosme gave me a chance to review this product, I immediately jumped at it.

Now, you don't have to order this product all the way from Korea because Natta Cosme, one of Malaysia's leading online beauty sites is selling this exact product!

It comes in a small darkened glass bottle and a dropper packed separately. Vitamin C is easily oxidized when exposed to sunlight and air. That is why the glass is darkened. Also, make sure you store it away from direct sunlight.

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that's found in citrus fruits like oranges, limes and guavas. It has been widely known to brighten the skin's complexion, heal acne, remove blackheads and fade dark spots or scars.

Exactly what I need! I have quite a few dark spots on my right cheek, no thanks to a bout of acne that struck me last year. So I was very excited to try it out to help fade my spots.

When I first opened the bottle and tried out the serum with a dropper, the serum was transparent in color. After squeezing a few drops from the dropper onto my palm, I noticed that the leftover serum in the dropper started looking a little bit yellowish.

That meant slight oxidation had taken place. I don't think you can really prevent oxidation because the very act of opening the bottle and using the dropper introduces air into the vitamin C concentration.

Enough talk. Now to my experience.

I use it at night because during the day, I'm exposed to sunlight. I'm not exactly sure whether you will experience any bad side effects from using it during the day, but I thought that using it at night would be the most effective. So there.

Vitamin C is acidic. I experienced a slight tingling sensation upon applying the serum. Nothing unbearable. If you have sensitive skin, well it could really sting. But for combination skin types like me, the tingling effect is not a problem.

It finishes off to a slightly tacky finish so make sure to pat it in thoroughly. But I don't mind the tackiness because I enjoy patting it in and after applying my moisturizer, any remaining tackiness goes away anyway.

I've noticed that my face has brightened up and my scars have faded slightly. Good job! *pats back* I truly enjoyed using this serum, but to really get good skin you still have to watch what you eat, get adequate sleep and move about regularly. Good skincare are only like supplements to your lifestyle.

If you're looking to invest in a good affordable serum, this OST Vitamin C serum does the trick!

Once again, thank you Natta Cosme for giving me the chance to try out this awesome product :)

This is a sample size and I don't know but when I got it, the writings on it were faded and worn out :( At least the contents were not compromised :)

The sample I was given weighed 15g.

The full size looks like this.

Priced at RM240 for 1.7oz (50 grams) it is very quite pricey for a mudmask - one reason why I was so delighted to receive it free :P

Without further a due, let 's jump into the review itself.

Skin type: Combination skin.

A little about my skin condition. My skin has been suffering from acne since a year back which I am still recovering from, although it has gotten a lot better. The side of the cheek I'm showing you had mild acne so it healed faster. The side I did not show is the one that has been hit by acne the worse. The acne's gone but the little stubborn dark spots did not. I'll write a skin post soon... because I have nothing better to do *grins*

ANYWAYYY, for the past few days, I've been eating a lot of oily foods. Consequently, my skin looks dull and haggard - so what better time to put this mask to test!

Immediately after layering on the mud all over my face, the mud goes on to form a moist green layer with chunks of green tea leaves scattered all over.

As you can see in the picture below, only after 2 minutes, the mask starts drying off fairly quickly (note: my forehead). You can tell once the mud starts turning a grayish green hue, you start feeling that part of your face tighten.

I noticed that the mud on my forehead and nose dried up faster than my cheeks. This is due to my forehead and nose producing more oil and my cheeks less (a trait of combination skin types). I assume because the mask dries up by absorbing the dirt and oil from those parts faster, leaving the mud on my cheeks wet for longer.

Picture of my nose below is SO THE NASTY. SO SO SO THE NASTY. I'm sorry you have to see this. I'm so sorry. Oh the things I do for my blog...

This was after 9 minutes.

But this shows that the mask is doing its thanggg okay. The mud mask is extracting all the nasty gunk and oil out of my pores.

So after 10 minutes, I rinsed it off with water.

Picture below is right before I went to wash off the mask. Trying to look demure with mud on my face. The mask has mostly turned into a dry dusty greyish green hue.

AFTER! This was after I toned and moisturised my face.

Okay, in all honesty I............... FREAKING LOVE THIS MASK! I really do! My skin felt sooo smooth and my moisturizer glided on so so so smoothly. SMOOOOTHHH. That's the very first thing I notice. Second thing I noticed is a brightened complexion due to the exfoliating effect of the mask (dead skin cells all come off geddit).

And I knew I wasn't imagining things because my boyfriend asked me why my skin felt so soft. ngehehehehehehehehehe

I'm kinda curious to try out the other variants in the Glam Glow range now. But I bo lui for Hollywood-worthy masks:(

It smells really, really, really nice! I kid you not. Very pleasant. The smell reminded me of minty green tea leaves. Like the minty green tea drink from Chatime. And extremely cooling too. After washing it off, I seriously wanted to go for round 2.

So it seems it's not only me going berserk over how smooth my skin felt. Check out how other people rated this product!

- 91% agreed it brightened their dull skin after 1 day of use

- 94% agreed it provided gentle surface exfoliation after 1 day of use

Kong Kong, if you're reading this, your grandson is now in Norway representing Malaysia in the Olympiad :D

If you're wondering who that ang moh dude is, he's the current World Champion... and my suitor :P

AND KONGKONG, this granddaughter of yours just officially completed her studies today!!! I received my results a few hours ago and I PASSED both my final papers! THAT MEANS I HAVE FINALLY PASSED ALL MY PAPERS! I'm an ACCA Affiliate!!!

I seriously was this close to having a mental breakdown last night. I was that nervous. MY GOD. You don't know how scared I was. The stakes were really high. Receiving the results this time round no joke man because I was only ONE STEP away from completing my studies. Just one fail would mean another 6 months of time, energy and money.

Phew. Best news of the year to date. I'm a free person now :D

But I tell you first ah, having so much nervous energy pent up in me this whole time got me sick. Having the flu now. Lol.

Ok that's all. Will try to update more frequently now that I've got a clearer mind.
